It was a really great surprise to be invited by Ninjatune to have my portrait of Pop Levi in their book celebrating 20 years of Beats and Pieces!

This was a shot I did a few years ago, generally Pop only uses his own photography and videos, but we’ve remained friends over the years and kept in touch. He’s one of the few truly original music artists around, and is also becoming a renowned producer, I hope he hits the level of respect that Prince does, there are few to parallel his talent. He’s also a very sweet guy.
Pop is about to release his next album, I’ve heard early demos and its good to say that he is well and truly back on form. It was a great evening down at Black Dog Press HQ, they have a cracking little gallery space, which my assistant and friend Sophie Rigg and eye were eyeing up from our “Fine Art” perspective. The walls were lined with every single album cover, from Roots Manuva to Mr. Scruff, Funky Porcini and indeed Pop Levi as well. This picture is taken by old friend Karl O’Keefe who normally is a music journalist but from time to time has been my assistant on photoshoots including this very one. A big thank you again should go to Samantha Myers for her truly innovative make up behind which a comedy tale lies which only Karl, Samantha and anyone at a drunken party know.
If you are a fan of the Ninjatune label I recommend the book like all their visual offerings it is a work of art in its own right.
